In what specific ways have your understandings of community and church been challenged and/or enriched by today’s readings?

Journal Prompts
Today’s readings ask us to consider a little more carefully our understandings of community and church, as well as to what extent younger generations regard the Christian faith and the church as important to their lives. In what specific ways have your understandings of community and church been challenged and/or enriched by today’s readings?
The Barna research study on Generation Z offers some interesting insights into this generation.
Where, if at all, did you see yourself or those you know represented in this study? What important lessons might the church learn from this research?
More and more people in our day who are followers of Jesus regard engagement with a local congregation as optional if not completely unnecessary.
Why do you think this is? Do you think such people would find anything in Campolo’s article compelling? Why or why not? How about you? How do you own experience and thought processes shine any light on this topic?

Through to the writing process.

Signature Assignment
Write a 3 to 4 page paper on how to conduct academic research using Internet
resources. For example, some of the topics you might explore are: How the
Internet has changed academic paper-writing, what search engines are and how
they work, what Boolean expressions are and how they are used in the search
process, what research resources and tools exist now that we have the Internet,
how the Internet has changed how we cite references, technology-related
methods for organizing and producing our papers, etc.).
Your paper can concentrate on one of the suggested topics in-depth or you
might cover a few or most of the topics in your paper. An example of covering
one topic in-depth is that you might research and describe how technology has
changed academic paper-writing over time, from the time that e-mail was
invented through current Internet technology. Another example of covering a
single topic in-depth might be to explore how student searches for articles and
books has changed since the time we used card catalogs to current Internetbased searches, new techniques, and on-line libraries. Further another in-depth,
single-topic example is to locate and describe the different technology tools and
techniques for organizing information for a research paper. An example of how
you might pull multiple topics together would be to write about the impact of the
Internet on the different steps in the paper-writing process, from research
through to the writing process.
One important key is that you must write about technology and academic
research.
Your paper should be in APA style citing references as appropriate. Use at least
5 but no more than 10 references with at least 3 references from journal articles
(use the TUW library databases where possible for this).

We often hear the word “stewardship” thrown around a lot in christian circles.

Journal prompts
We often hear the word “stewardship” thrown around a lot in Christian circles. What exactly is stewardship about? On what basis are we supposed to decide whether or not we are being faithful stewards of what God his entrusted to us?
Chittister suggests that, contrary to our culture’s insistence that our gifts and abilities are ours to do with as we please, God has given us gifts that belong as much to the community as they do to us. What gifts do you believe that God has given you and what would it mean for you to use those gifts to edify and build up others?

Develop an argument (a series of claims supported by data used as evidence) against that proposition (two pages maximum) .

The proposition is: The Afrocentrist thinker, Leonard Jeffries often speaks of the theory that Europeans are “ice people” who are violent and cruel, while “Afrikans,” Asians and MesoAmericans (the triple “a”) are “sun people” who are compassionate and peaceful. Specifically, he is a proponent of melanin theory and claims that melanin levels affect the psyche of people, and that melanin allows non-white people to “…negotiate the vibrations of the universe and to deal with the ultraviolet rays of the sun.”
Develop an argument (a series of claims supported by data used as evidence) against that proposition (two pages maximum) . Write it as “convincingly” as you can.
Pay attention to examining the author’s underlying assumptions, sources of data, counter arguments you may glean from the literature, clearly stating your own argument, discussing your assumptions/justifications citing appropriate sources to support your position.
